The buildings
Bigger plots, bigger roofs, more weather
Radlett grew as a commuter village after the railway arrived, and its housing reflects that: interwar and post-war detached and semi-detached houses on substantial plots, with a good deal of later replacement and rebuilding on the same sites. Roofs are predominantly clay and concrete tile, hipped or gabled, and generally large.
The bigger difference from our London work is exposure. Properties here sit in open ground rather than in the shelter of a continuous terrace, with mature trees around them and far more wind reaching the roof. Storm damage is more common, ridge and hip tiles come off more readily, and gutters fill with leaf litter far faster. That is the pattern rather than the whole picture. Newer housing, bungalows, flats and outbuildings are all part of the work out here, and a job can be as small as a couple of tiles and a gutter clear.
- Large hipped and gabled tiled roofs
- Dry ridge and verge systems for exposure
- Storm damage made safe quickly
- Rainwater goods sized for tree cover
What goes wrong here
What exposure does to a roof
The same roof in an open Hertfordshire plot ages differently to one in a sheltered London street.
Wind damage
Ridge and hip tiles lifted in high winds, and verge tiles pulled off where the mortar has already gone.
Failed ridge bedding
Mortar-bedded ridges taking the full force of the weather on an exposed line, cracking and washing out.
Leaf-blocked gutters
Heavy tree cover filling gutters, valleys and hoppers far faster than an urban property.
Moss on shaded slopes
North-facing slopes under trees holding moss all year, keeping tiles wet and blocking the drainage below.
Exposed stacks
Chimneys standing clear of any surrounding shelter, taking wind-driven rain on all four faces.
Perished underfelt
Original felt on interwar roofs, now torn and offering nothing when rain is driven past the tiles.

Customer reviews
What our customers actually say
Every review below was left by a real customer on one of our public profiles. Nothing has been edited.
My roof had various areas needing repair and adjustments to fascia, guttering and gable end to avoid future leaks. I found Patrick and his team to be capable, professional and knowledgeable. Always easy to reach by phone, message and email, they turned up when they said they would and finished the job to my satisfaction. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good job.
Excellent experience with Patrick and his team from Invigorate Roofing. Patrick arrived on time, identified all the issues, offered a very fair and reasonable price, and completed the job quickly and professionally. His workmanship was great, and everything was done without delays. His team was polite, respectful, and very friendly throughout the whole process. I highly recommend them for any roofing work or repairs.
Patrick was very helpful indeed — he diagnosed the issue we have had with a persistently leaking roof and suggested the solution. He was really good at explaining what the issue was likely to be, and when he and his team opened up the tiling, he was able to fix it. Professional, good with communication, completed the work in one day and went back to check it had all settled in. Would highly recommend him.
The team at Invigorate Roofing did an incredible job. The price was great, the work they did was to a high standard, and they tidied up before they left — incredibly professional all round.
Patrick and his team at Invigorate Roofing were fantastic! They worked on our property over two full days repairing multiple leaks. Their professionalism from start to finish was 1st class with regular updates and images through keeping us in the loop. I would highly recommend Invigorate Roofing! Five stars!
Out of 3 quotes, Invigorate was by far the most competitive and the most transparent. Patrick carried out the job swiftly and thoroughly (and spotlessly). I would thoroughly recommend using Patrick.

Radlett FAQs
Roofing in Radlett, answered
Questions we get asked about working on WD7 properties. If yours is not here, just ask.
Do you really cover Hertfordshire, or just the London edge of it?
We genuinely work out here. Radlett and the surrounding villages are a straightforward run from our Hampstead base, and Hertfordshire has been part of our working area for years.
Ridge tiles keep coming off in the wind. Can that be stopped?
Yes. Mortar bedding is what usually fails on exposed roofs, because it is rigid and takes the weather directly. A dry ridge system fixes the tiles mechanically and ventilates the roof at the same time, and it does not wash out.
How often should gutters be cleared with this many trees?
Twice a year is realistic here rather than the usual once. A single autumn clear frequently is not enough to get a tree-surrounded Hertfordshire property through to spring without something blocking.
Can you come out quickly after a storm?
Yes. We run a 24 hour call-out and prioritise properties where the roof is open or where material is at risk of falling. We make it safe and watertight first, then quote the permanent repair separately.
