The buildings
Substantial houses with substantial roofs
The building stock here is generally larger than the London average — detached and semi-detached houses on decent plots, particularly around the Village, the Common and Wimbledon Park. Many are Edwardian or interwar, in clay tile or slate, with prominent gables, hipped ends and a good deal of decorative timber.
The scale changes the job. These are big roofs with complex geometry — multiple gables, hips, valleys and dormers on the same property — so a re-roof is a substantial undertaking, and the survey matters. It also means there is usually somewhere sensible to put a scaffold, which helps. Not every SW19 property is a large period house, and a job does not have to be a large one to be worth doing. Smaller houses, flats and single repairs make up a good share of our work here.
- Large, complex roof geometry
- Clay tile and natural slate
- Multiple valleys and hips detailed
- Conservation-sensitive work handled
What goes wrong here
What large tiled roofs do
More roof means more junctions, and the junctions are where the money goes.
Multiple valleys
Complex roofs with several valleys, each taking water from two slopes and each a potential failure point.
Hip and ridge mortar
Long runs of bedded hip and ridge tile, with mortar cracked and washed out over decades of exposure.
Perished membrane
Original underfelt torn and dropped, leaving the tiles as the only line of defence on a very large area.
Dormer roofs
Original and added dormers, where the small flat top and the cheek abutments have been left too long.
Long gutter runs
Extended gutter lengths behind decorative timber, sagging between brackets and spilling down the fascia.
Multiple stacks
Several chimney stacks on one property, each with its own flashings, pointing and flaunching to maintain.
Working in Wimbledon
Room to work, and rules to follow
Access is generally good here. The constraints are mostly about consent and timing.
- Driveways and gardens giving room for scaffold and materials
- Conservation area designations around parts of the Village and the Common
- Listed buildings in the older parts, where consent is needed
- Restricted access and parking during the tennis championships
- Large roof areas requiring longer programmes
- Mature trees over roofs, filling valleys and gutters
- Occupied family homes throughout the works
On a roof this size the survey is worth doing properly. We photograph every valley, hip and stack so the quotation reflects the whole roof rather than an estimate from the ground.

Customer reviews
What our customers actually say
Every review below was left by a real customer on one of our public profiles. Nothing has been edited.
My roof had various areas needing repair and adjustments to fascia, guttering and gable end to avoid future leaks. I found Patrick and his team to be capable, professional and knowledgeable. Always easy to reach by phone, message and email, they turned up when they said they would and finished the job to my satisfaction. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good job.
Excellent experience with Patrick and his team from Invigorate Roofing. Patrick arrived on time, identified all the issues, offered a very fair and reasonable price, and completed the job quickly and professionally. His workmanship was great, and everything was done without delays. His team was polite, respectful, and very friendly throughout the whole process. I highly recommend them for any roofing work or repairs.
Patrick was very helpful indeed — he diagnosed the issue we have had with a persistently leaking roof and suggested the solution. He was really good at explaining what the issue was likely to be, and when he and his team opened up the tiling, he was able to fix it. Professional, good with communication, completed the work in one day and went back to check it had all settled in. Would highly recommend him.
The team at Invigorate Roofing did an incredible job. The price was great, the work they did was to a high standard, and they tidied up before they left — incredibly professional all round.
Patrick and his team at Invigorate Roofing were fantastic! They worked on our property over two full days repairing multiple leaks. Their professionalism from start to finish was 1st class with regular updates and images through keeping us in the loop. I would highly recommend Invigorate Roofing! Five stars!
Out of 3 quotes, Invigorate was by far the most competitive and the most transparent. Patrick carried out the job swiftly and thoroughly (and spotlessly). I would thoroughly recommend using Patrick.

Wimbledon FAQs
Roofing in Wimbledon, answered
Questions we get asked about working on SW19 properties. If yours is not here, just ask.
How long does a re-roof take on a large Wimbledon house?
Typically two to three weeks on site once scaffold is up, depending on the geometry and how much structural timber needs attention. We keep the roof sheeted and watertight throughout.
Do conservation rules apply to my roof?
They may — it depends entirely on your address. Merton can confirm whether a conservation area designation or listing applies to your property, and what that means for the work you are planning. We will then work to whatever is approved.
Several of my valleys leak. Do they all need replacing?
Not necessarily, but if they are the same age and specification and two have failed, the others are usually not far behind. We will assess each one and tell you which need doing now and which can reasonably wait.
Can you work during the tennis fortnight?
Access and parking around SW19 become considerably harder during the championships, so where a job is flexible we would generally programme around it. If the work is urgent we will make it happen and plan the logistics accordingly.
